Design A_Z
MAXXI – National XXI century art museum - Rome
The “Design A-Z” exhibition cycle dedicated to contemporary design is scheduled to begin at the same time as the “Holland-Italy” architecture exhibition is opened.Using the letters in the alphabet as a guiding thread has made it possible to create a continuous exhibition over an extended period of time, at the end of which the spectator will possess the ability and the vocabulary to “read” design showcase pieces. The letters of the alphabet therefore become a historiographical device, used from time to time to focus attention onto a single theme, which may either be connected to the exhibitions taking place in the main rooms of the museum or completely independent of the other exhibitions.
There is also a section dedicated to the activities of the ADI (Italian Industrial Design Association), which has been the driving force behind the development and international success of Italian design since 1956 and which, through the ADI Foundation, promotes the Compasso d’Oro Prize every three years.
A lighting scheme created using Tecnica spotlights (designed by Bruno Gecchelin) is used to illuminate the pieces on display.
