The Imagine Peace Tower, as the monument is called, will consist of a simple column of light that will be located on the island of Videy, where it will be visible from the capital, Reykjavik. This project is based on a piece of conceptual art that Ms. Ono conceived in the 1960s entitled “Light House”. Her late husband, John Lennon, had expressed interest in the “Light House” and the two intended to bring the concept into reality. It was Ms. Ono’s wish that this beacon of light be sited in Reykjavik because Iceland has never maintained an army and is a world-leader on environmental issues.
After an extensive test phase, iGuzzini Light Up Walk Professional fittings were selected to light up the structure itself. The column consists of nine Space Cannon Leukos 7000W Xenon fittings. In addition to the main part of the column there are six 2000W Leukos in the light tunnels. All of these are special products, designed to withstand marine environments.
In connection with the Imagine Peace Tower, Yoko Ono will award the LennonOno Grant for Peace at the site of the artwork on October 9 every other year. The LennonOno Grant for Peace was founded in 2002 to promote peace, truth and humanity in the world, and to help people who promote these values to continue their work.
