The light surrounding the Olympics
Beijing, China
The Olympic Games are always a valid reason for the urban redevelopment of the host city and Beijing is no exception. The great state of ferment which has characterised the Chinese capital since it was first awarded the Games has led to the creation of new structures, while countless renovation and readjustment projects involving existing buildings and various urban areas have also been carried out.
iGuzzini has assumed the role of lighting technology partner in the development of this new and impressive architecture, and has been involved with some truly exceptional projects, such as the Morgan hotel and the pedestrian walkway crossing the Olympic Forest Park.
The Morgan (called “Pangu” in Chinese) is a 7-star hotel which is located within the majestic Pangea Plaza, just a few minutes’ walk from the Olympic stadium. At this site, we used multi-lamp Deep Frame recessed fixtures to create suitable lighting inside more than 250 suites, complementing the interior design scheme devised by the Ricardo Bello Dias studio.
Meanwhile, more than 1,000 Lavinia fixtures were chosen to light up the “pedestrian street” stretching all the way across the Olympic Forest Park, the green heart of the Olympic park area.
These two projects are testament to the strong presence of iGuzzini in the capital of the Rising Sun, something which has previously been demonstrated on an international scale through the creation of a special lighting scheme for the National Center for Performing Arts, designed by the French architect Paul Andreu.
